Biography
Born in 1770 or 1771 in a family of clergy; received secondary education at the Kostroma Theological Seminary , and higher education at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy . At the end of the academic course in 1792, Lubkin was identified in the Kostroma Seminary as a teacher first of the German language and mathematics, and then (since 1797) philosophy; in 1801 he was transferred to the army seminary , where he became the rector and teacher of philosophy. After retiring from the clerical department in 1806, Lubkin decided on the position of “behavioral supervisor” at the St. Petersburg Pedagogical Institute , but after serving here for less than 4 years, he was appointed director of schools in the Orenburg province . In the next 1811, the trustee of the Kazan educational district, S. Ya. Rumovsky, proposed that Lubkin take over the vacant, after the death of Professor Voigt , Kazan University chair of speculative and practical philosophy with the title of adjunct, and Lubkin was confirmed in this title in 1812. Raised at the full opening of the university (1814) to the title of extraordinary professor, Lubkin at the same time bore duties and inspector of the Kazan gymnasium until 1815, when he was elected an ordinary professor.
A. S. Lubkin was the first among Russian philosophers to speak in the press about Kant , criticizing his theory of knowledge from the standpoint of sensualism (“Letters on Critical Philosophy”, “ Herald of Europe ”, 1805); made his objections to Kant's doctrine of space and time.
He also owns the following works: "The outline of logic, composed and taught in the army seminary ..." (St. Petersburg, 1807) [1] ; the translation, together with P. S. Kondyrev , of Snell's works: “The Beginning Course of Philosophy” (Kazan, 1813-1814, in 5 parts); “The discussion of whether moralizing can be given a solid foundation, regardless of religion” (Act speech, Kazan, 1815); “Experience in the analysis of Russian estates” (“Proceedings of the Kazan Society of Lovers of Russian Literature”, 1815) and “The Inscription of Metaphysics”, parts 1-3 (Kazan, 1818-1819).
