History

The ancient city of Auca (today - Villafranca Montes de Oca ) was the center of the eparchy of the same name, which was part of the Metropolitanate of Tarragona.

Since 1969, the Diocese of Auki has been a titular diocese.

  • Bishop Daniel Llorente y Federico (12/11/1969 - 02/27/1971);
  • Bishop Hernando Rojas Ramírez (04/26/1972 - 12/12/1974) - appointed bishop of El Espinal ;
  • Bishop Theodor Hubrich (12/05/1975 - 03/26/1992);
  • Jorge Mario Bergoglio SJ [1] (05/20/1992 - 06/03/1997) - appointed as auxiliary archbishop of Buenos Aires ; March 13, 2013 elected by Pope Francis I;
  • Bishop Mieczysław Cisło (12/13/1997 - present).
