Biography
Peters Gustav (August) Ernestovich was born on April 15, 1837, a nobleman.
According to family legend, he graduated from an artillery school and was sent to one of the Ural factories, where he headed from the military department the acceptance of cannons made for the army. He was an honest and uncompromising officer. He rejected a large number of poorly manufactured guns, which led to a conflict with the higher corrupt authorities.
As a result, Lieutenant G. (A.) E. Peters had to leave military service and move to live in Odessa , where his father worked. (General Peters never lived in Odessa. Where could he give birth to Gustav at 24 years old, being with artillery in St. Petersburg?
In the years 1858-1859 he travels to the countries of Western Europe to get acquainted with ancient monuments and archaeological sites and consultations with doctors about his health. His letter to his father and mother from the city of Milan dated 12.25.1858 ends with the words:
| “... Tomorrow I’m going to Turin, the first free land that I will see! I would go to Nice , but I would not see either Herculaneus , or Pompeii , or Vesuvius . I just get dizzy with these words. I embrace you sincerely. Your Gustav. " |
From the letter it is clear that already in it the embers of future revolutions begin to smolder. Flames of fire in the hearts of his son Boris Avgustovich Peters and grandson of Georgy Borisovich Peters .
Returning to Odessa, G. Peters designs and builds the city’s drainage and waterworks, and also develops the salt industry.
Gustav Peters was married to Sophia Iosifovna Peters (Brunner, 1840-02.05.1877). Their children: Alexandra, Eugene, Boris, Elizabeth, Sergey.
Gustav (August) Ernestovich Peters died in 1896.
