Valahadis or Valaadas or Vlachads ( Greek Βαλαάδες, Βαλαχδε -) are Greek-speaking Muslims who lived in Ottoman Macedonia. It is believed that the Vlahadis are descendants of the Greek Christians who converted to Islam in the 18th century. Traditionally lived in the valley of the river Aliakmon. According to Vasil Kunchov's statistics, 14,373 Muslims lived in Macedonia in 1900 . [1] According to the Greek data of 1904, 16,070 Vlachads lived in this area. [2] The overwhelming majority of the Vlachads were resettled to Turkey for the exchange of population after the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 Part of the community has preserved a Greek dialect in Turkey, called “romeica”.
