Reginald Ashe ( born Reginald Haché ; born November 26, 1932 , Waterville , Maine ) is an American composer and music teacher .
He graduated from the New England Conservatory ( 1954 ), among his teachers were Ivan Waldbauer (composition), Richard Arnell (orchestration) and Miklos Schwalb (piano). At the end of the course, he served in the 7th US Army in West Germany as part of an army orchestra, then taught in Canada and, for more than 25 years, at Northeastern University . He wrote a piano concert (1978), music for radio performances “The Scarlet Letter” (according to N. Hawthorne ) and “Treasure Island” (according to R. L. Stevenson ), a number of other orchestral and chamber compositions [1] . The author of arrangements for two pianos, including the suite by Modest Mussorgsky “ Pictures from the Exhibition ” and Claude Debussy's “Children's Corner” . He performed as a pianist, including accompanying Joseph Silverstein . He is the author of a number of articles on the history of music (in particular, on piano plays by Charles Tomlinson Griffs ) and the memoirs book “ Almost Made It ” ( English Almost Made It , 2012).
