Biography
Abu al-Ala Ganjavi was born at the end of the 11th century in Arran in the city of Ganja . He studied astronomy, mathematics, medicine, ancient philosophy and poetry. Having moved to the capital of the Shirvanshahs , Shemakha took an important place among the court poets of Minuchihr III , having won the title of “king of poets” (melik-ush-shuar) [3] .
Abu al-Ala Ganjavi taught young poets, among whom were such prominent Persian poets as Hagani and Falaki Shirvani . In the palace, he received the official title of “king of poets” (Malik al-Shuar) and became, in fact, one of the founders of the Transcaucasian school of Persian poetry. Only a small number of kasids written by Ganjavi came to us. His works are examples of ceremonial court poetry. The socio-philosophical odes-kasydy written by Ganjavi are distinguished by virtuosity of style.
