Born April 3, 1948 in Yerevan.

Education

In 1971 he graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, the faculty of technical cybernetics, and a mathematician-engineer.

In 1975, he graduated from the graduate school of the Moscow All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Genetics, specializing in molecular genetics.

In 1977, in Moscow, he received a Ph.D. in biological sciences, specializing in genetics.

S. Kocharian is the author and co-author of more than 100 scientific papers and more than 30 inventions licensed in many countries, including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, and France.

Professional Activities

1971-1972 senior laboratory assistant at the Charentsavan branch of the All-Union Research Institute of Genetics.

1976-1981 Junior Researcher, Yerevan Experimental Biological Institute, Academy of Sciences and Abovyan Institute of Bacteriology, Academy of Sciences.

1981-1990 Senior Researcher, Head of Laboratory and Department Head at Yerevan Biological Technological Institute.

In 1990, 1995, 1999 and 2003 Sh. Kocharyan was elected to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

1990-1995 Vice-chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, head of the “National Democrats” parliamentary group.

1992-1995 and 1999-2003 - Member of the delegation of the National Assembly to the Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS.

1995-1999 - Member of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, Secretary of the National Democratic Union.

1999-2003 - Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth.

1999-2003 - Member of the National Assembly delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly .

Since 2003, he was a member of the Interim Committee of the National Assembly on European Integration and the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and the Environment.

2003-2005 Member of the delegation of the National Assembly in PACE .

Since 2008, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Political and social activities

1988-1990 - Active participant in the Karabakh movement

1991-2001 - Member of the Board of the National Democratic Union

1992-1993 - Chairman of the Council of the National Democratic Union

Since 1999, a member of the public organization "Democracy, Legal and Political Analytical Center".

2000-2003 - Member of the Council of Yerevan Engineering University

Since 2001 - Member of the National Democratic Party, head of the NPD Council

Since 2000 - Member of the Council of the Hans Christian Konfoed Charity

Since 2005 - Member of the Board of Trustees of the Yerevan School of Political Studies of the Council of Europe, lecturer of the same school

Since 2007 - Head of the non-governmental organization “Society and Civilization”
