Flavius Florentius Roman Protogenes ( Latin: Flavius Florentius Romanus Protogenes ) is a Roman statesman of the middle of the 5th century .

Until 448, Protogen was the prefect of praetorium , possibly of the East. In 448-449, he was at the post of prefect of the Praetorium of the East . During his second prefecture, Roman received a letter from the bishop of Cyrus and the historian Theodorite , who was accused of heresy and asked him to organize a fair process. In 449, he served as consul along with Flavius Astirius . Between 449 and 451, Florence received the title of patrician. In October 451, he took part in the Cathedral of Chalcedon .
