Division History
The division was created in October 1941 after the Vyazemsky operation , when the threat of capture by the Wehrmacht hung over Moscow. As a result of the reorganization of the workers and fighter battalions, four Moscow rifle divisions were created. The 2nd Moscow Rifle Division was formed on October 18 due to a significant share of the personnel of the 242nd Rifle Division , due to replenishment received from the district military enlistment offices of Moscow and the Moscow Region , and due to the personnel of the 1st Air Defense Corps. Together with the disbanded 1st Moscow Rifle Division, the 472nd howitzer artillery regiment entirely joined the division.
Initially, the division was formed as a division of the people's militia [1] . Based on the directives of the command of the Moscow Military District No. 109065 of October 21, 1941 and No. 0047 of November 4, 1941, it was renamed the 2nd Infantry Division of Moscow.
As part of the army from 10.24.1941 to 01.19.1942.
On October 23, the division took up defense on the southwestern and southern outskirts of the city , at the turn of Poklonnaya Gora - Potylikha - Vorobyevo . One of the regiments supported detachments of fighter battalions that defended the Shchukino - Kuntsevo - Ramenki - Nizhny Kotly - Petrushino strip. A separate motorcycle battalion was located on Potylikha. On October 24th, the advance detachments of the division entered the fighting in the area of Kyovo , Lobny [2] . By order of the command, the fighter anti-tank division took up defense along the line: Setun - Fili - Aminievo - Trinity-Golenishchevo to Khoroshevskoye Shosse [3] .
November 7, 1941 took part in a parade of troops on Red Square . Directly from the parade, the units went to their defensive lines and firing positions:
- division headquarters and 4 joint ventures - Bakhmetyevskaya St. Building 15 ( MIIT Plant);
- 1 joint venture - put forward for defense in the area of Discord , Odintsovo , Gorodnyakh , Petrushino ;
- 2 joint ventures - took up defense on the Lenin Hills ;
- 3 joint ventures and paws - Novosuschevskaya , 26 ;
- gap - at a strong point in the area of Kutuzovskaya Sloboda ;
- the remaining units are in the building of the People’s Commissariat ( Wrestling Square ) [4] .
In mid-November, all units of the 2nd Moscow Rifle Division, interacting with the troops of the Western Front , fought north-west of Khimki at the Klin - Ozeretskoye - Krasnaya Polyana - Gorki line . The division stubbornly resisted the enemy in the Krasnaya Polyana region, covering the Khlebnikov crossing from the north and north-west. Nominated to the Krasnaya Polyana region, one of the regiments of this division, supported by aviation and artillery, fought a fierce battle with the advancing tank division of the enemy during the day. And, despite significant losses, he held his position until the approach of new parts.
Over 900 division soldiers were awarded the commemorative medal "For the Defense of Moscow" .
After the defeat of German troops near Moscow, on January 19, 1942, the 2nd Moscow Rifle Division was renamed the 129th Rifle Division and transferred to the 1st Shock Army .
