Biography

Peter Edunov was born in 1913 in the village of Zolino (now the Klinsky district of the Moscow region ). In 1939, Edunov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He served in the border troops on the western border of the USSR. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He participated in the defensive battles of 1941, the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk , the liberation of Belgorod , Krasnograd , Poltava , Kremenchug . By October 1943, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Edunov commanded an automatic platoon of the 19th Mechanized Brigade of the 1st Mechanized Corps of the 37th Army of the Steppe Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .

On October 6, 1943, despite the massive fire of enemy artillery and mortars , Edunov crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Mishurin Rog of the Verkhnedneprovsky region of the Dnepropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR and successfully carried out reconnaissance of enemy firing positions, which allowed the battalion to successfully conduct combat operations to hold the bridgehead on the west coast The Dnieper. Participated in repelling a number of enemy counterattacks, was wounded on October 12 , but continued to fight. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943, for “courage and courage shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and in the battles for holding the bridgehead”, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Edunov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .

Later he participated in the liberation of the Byelorussian SSR . On July 8, 1944, Edunov died during a German air raid in the area of ​​the settlement of Polonki, Baranavichy district . He was buried in a mass grave in the village Gorodishche of Baranavichy district of the Brest region of Belarus [1] .

He was also awarded a medal [1] .

Streets in Klin , Gorodishche and the village of Kaluzhino, Dnipropetrovsk Region, and a secondary school in the Klinsky district are named in honor of Edunov [1] .
