History
The history of the entire Typhoon family begins in 2010, when it was approved by the Minister of Defense “The Concept for the Development of Military Automotive Equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the Period until 2020”, which prescribes the development of highly standardized families of armored vehicles. As a result, a single wheeled cargo platform "Typhoon" was created, providing high protection for the crew, cargo and vehicle components from small arms and land mines . And also on which it is possible to mount various target equipment and create on its basis the necessary modifications like communication vehicles, mobile artillery systems, truck cranes, transport and launch vehicles of UAVs, tow trucks, excavators and others. The creation was carried out by specialists from the Ural automobile plant, Avtodizel OAO GAZ Group , STC KAMAZ OJSC , Steel Research Institute , where the machine’s armor was designed, the Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov , which calculated the armored corps protection, Magistral-LTD company, which worked the creation of bulletproof glass, MSTU. N. E. Bauman, engaged in the development of hydropneumatic suspension and many other companies and research institutes [3] [4] . The need to create such vehicles was dictated by the fact that the bulk of the military losses in the troops occurred due to the explosion of vehicles in a minefield or from landmines during the movement of columns [5] . In December 2014, the first batch of 30 armored vehicles entered the Southern Military District [6] . In January 2015, Southeast Military District received another 20 units [7] .

Reservation corresponds to level 3b of the NATO classification STANAG 4569 , according to which the machine can withstand the undermining of high-explosive fragmentation devices weighing 8 kg in TNT under any place in the car. Bulletproof protection corresponds to the fourth level. Combined armor made of ceramics and steel was installed, which protects against armor-piercing bullets of caliber 14.5 × 114 mm . Including bulletproof glass with a thickness of 128.5-129.0 mm with a transparency of 70%, developed by Magistral LTD and tested at the Steel Research Institute , withstanding 2 shots with a distance between them of 280-300 mm when fired from KPVT at a speed bullets 911 m / s at the moment of contact with the glass. Bullet resistance exceeds the highest requirements according to GOST (GOST R 51136 and GOST R 50963), in which the highest level is the firing of armor-piercing cartridges B-32, 7.62 × 54 mm from SVD . In production, Magistral-LTD was guided by Western standards of level IV STANAG 4569 - guaranteed protection when fired with B-32 armor-piercing ammunition from 14.5 × 114 mm from a distance of 200 m with a bullet speed of 911 m / s. [3] [13] There are 16.00R20 bulletproof tires with automatic pumping and adjustable pressure up to 4.5 atmospheres. The armored module is provided with loopholes for firing small arms, and a remotely controlled machine gun can also be mounted on it. [1] Unification with other cars of the family is 86%.
The seats are equipped with holders of personal weapons, seat belts and head restraints. They are attached to the module roof to reduce the impact of mines / landmines. Inside the module, a FVUA-100A filter and ventilation unit and an air conditioner are installed. Landing is carried out through the ramp at the rear of the car or through the door on the side. There are emergency hatches on the roof in the event of a car tipping over to one side or problems with access through the ramp.
Monitoring and communication tools
The GALS-D1M On-Board Information and Control System ( BIUS ) is installed in the car for monitoring and regulating engine operation, calculating vehicle roll, road incline, driving speed, location, etc. Independent hydropneumatic suspension allows the driver to change ground clearance on the go, using remote control within 400 mm. Typhoon K-63968 is equipped with five cameras for all-round visibility in the landing module and cockpit. The cab is equipped with folding monitors showing both the condition of the car and the external view.
