The departure is one of the types of military maneuver : the actions of the troops used to withdraw subunits , units , formations from enemy strikes and occupy a favorable line for defense , conducting a counterattack (counterstrike), reducing the length of the front line, winning time and other goals.
Departure can occur with a way out of combat or deliberately out of touch with the enemy. The withdrawal from the battlefield is carried out under the cover of specially allocated units, which by active actions ensure the secrecy of the withdrawal and its successful implementation. The withdrawal of the main forces is covered by the actions of the rear guards, rear and side marching posts, the organization of ambushes , the construction of barriers and destruction. Departure is made only by order of a senior officer.
