Biography
Duney's boy, later Ged, was born in the small mountain village of Ten Alders on the island of Gaunt, in the Northeast Sea of the Earthsea archipelago, and spent his childhood there. His mother died when Dani was not even a year old. Six older brothers left the village, and he was raised by his father, a village blacksmith. Dani grazed goats, and then his father took him as an apprentice. Once Dani heard a village witch utter some words to drive a goat that had climbed there from the roof. He remembered and repeated the words, and the whole herd of goats chased after him. The witch noticed this and decided that the boy had good inclinations to become a magician. The village witch did not possess extensive knowledge and taught Dani mainly the “real names” of things and simple spells, and could not give him deep knowledge about the structure and balance of magic.
A month before the thirteenth anniversary of Dani, savages from the Kargad Empire attacked the island of Gaunt, and the boy let out a thick fog to save the village, but he almost died, as he spent too much energy on this spell. The magician from Re-Albi Ogion the Silent saved him from death. Ogion takes the boy as a student and conducts the Rite of Initiation, on which he gives him a real name - Ged. Ogion wanted to prepare the young man’s mind to realize the importance of his skills and abilities, wanted to teach him patience and concentration, to lay a knowledge base about the world around him and about every thing in this world, while the young man longed for new spells and skills. Ogion decides to give Ged the right to choose: study with him or go to a school of magic on the island of Rock. Guesde chooses a school of magic on the island of Rock.
The boy is easy to learn, he becomes very confident in his abilities. The self-confidence of the young arrogant woman leads to tragedy: by challenging Queen Elfarran’s soul from the Kingdom of Death, the young magician opened the way to our world for a ghostly Shadow.
Archmage Nemmerl saved Ged, but paid with his life. Only Ged could fight the Shadow and defeat her. The magician enters into battle with the Shadow, who longs to kill Ged’s soul and fall into his body shell. He sets off to overtake her and defeat her. After many trips, adventures and meetings, the magician learns the truth: the Shadow is nothing but the dark side of his own soul. At the end of The Wizard of the Seaside , Ged wins and returns home to become Archmage.
The second book tells about the exploits of the magician. In order to get the Erret-Akbe ring, Ged penetrates the hag's lair. Only with this shrine of barbarians can he unite the lands of the Earth Sea. The young priestess of Tenard falls in love with him, who helps him in the underground labyrinth. The dragon tells Ged that the magician is the owner of the lost fragment of the sacred ring. Guesde will have to rob the great treasury of the Athens tombs in order to restore peace on the lands of the archipelago.
In the third book, “ On the Last Bank, ” Ged, in the status of Archmage of the School of Doom, along with Prince Arren, restores the balance in the world, which began to fluctuate. He descends into the world of the dead and defeats the enemy in his territory. After this, Ged loses all magical power and becomes a hermit.
In the novel " Tehanu " he appears as a secondary character, giving way to Tenard and Terr, which is associated with Le Guin's passion for feminism [1] . He helps them defeat the robbers, and then remains to live with them, like Tenar's husband and adoptive father for Terra.
