The area of the commune is 700 km ², the population is 15 557 inhabitants ( 2013 ). It is located to the south of Lake Vänern . Uddevalla - Herrujung railway , the E20 European route and the No. 47 highway pass through its territory.
In the economy of the commune farming is important. In 1998, agriculture and forestry provided 9% of all jobs in the commune. In the production of employed 32% of the population. Many enterprises of the commune are associated with agriculture.
