Biography

Born on June 16, 1910 in Riga, the Russian Empire in a working class family. Belarus .

In 1916, the family moved to the city of Oryol .

In 1927 he graduated from the 4th grade of the school and entered the city municipal department, worked on the construction of the dam.

Since 1929 he worked in the city fire department.

In 1932, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . He served as a machine gunner in the bulbate of the Ostrovsky fortified area in the Pskov region .

After demobilization in 1935, he entered work as a gas welder at Plant No. 9 (now the Tekmash Plant).

From October 1941 to August 1943, Trukhanov was in the city of Orel occupied by the Nazis and was soon mobilized by the commandant's office to work in a railway depot. On the instructions of the underground, the railroad workers repeatedly disabled steam locomotives and arranged other minor sabotage, and Trukhanov also did this.

In 1943, the railway hub of Orel was repeatedly bombed by Soviet aircraft, and Trukhanov once nearly died from the actions of his own pilots.

On August 5, 1943, during the Oryol operation, the city of Oryol was liberated from the enemy. Railroad workers helped Soviet fighters liberate the station and city blocks. Trukhanov, in the days of the liberation of the city, was in combat formation of the 1260th Infantry Regiment of the 380th Infantry Division , and the commanders used his knowledge of the city and the locations of enemy strongholds.

Immediately after the liberation of Orel from the Nazis, he was mobilized in early August 1943 and sent to the 858th Infantry Regiment of the 283rd Infantry Division , the same one that played an important role in the Oryol offensive operation. When the regiment commander, Lieutenant Colonel Korobeinikov, found out that the recruit was a ready-made machine gunner, there was no limit to his joy, since his regiment suffered significant losses during the liberation of Oryol , and there were almost no senior soldiers among the mobilized recruits. Peter Trukhanov was a rare exception.

In the very first battles, still in the territory of his native Oryol region , the newcomer showed his fighting abilities, and from that time the regiment commander sent him to the most important tasks and sites. And already in Belarus, Corporal Trukhanov turned around for real and soon received the first award - the Order of the Red Star . This happened during the Gomel-Rechitsa offensive operation in November 1943 . The 858th rifle regiment was then given the task to go to the village of Sedlets-Kholopeev ( Bykhov district of the Mogilev region ), an important enemy stronghold near the Dnieper . The regiment commander Korobeinikov sent a reconnaissance group to the village to clarify the situation with the location of enemy units. One of the scouts was Peter Trukhanov. He personally coped with the combat mission brilliantly. Here is how his merits were succinctly described by the regiment commander in the award sheet:

"In the battles for the village of Selets-Kholopeev, on November 24, 1943 , being in intelligence, he destroyed 6 Nazis, captured 3 Germans, 2 Vlasov and an easel machine gun."

The prisoners gave important information that allowed the 858th Infantry Regiment to complete the task: Sedlets-Kholopeevo was taken with minimal losses, which allowed the entire 3rd Army of General Gorbatov to launch an attack on Mogilyov from the south.

In January 1944, Sergeant Trukhanov was seriously wounded and was taken out by his colleagues, after which he was sent to the rear hospital in Kazan .

After being cured in April 1944, Trukhanov managed to get directions to the 380th Rifle Division , with divisions of which he liberated his hometown of Oryol . The division at that time was part of the 50th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front , was on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Bykhovsky District of the Mogilev Region , and upon arrival in it, Senior Sergeant Trukhanov was appointed commander of the calculation of the Maxim machine gun . He had to force the Dnieper again. The command chose a force section north of Bykhov . On the eve of the start of the Belarusian operation, the 380th Infantry Division was redeployed closer to Mogilev , as it had the experience of street fighting in a big city with the aim of releasing it.

On June 27, 1944, senior sergeant Trukhanov, having shown ingenuity, transported his easel machine gun to the west bank of the Dnieper River in the vicinity of the village of Stayki in the Mogilev region on a car balloon under enemy fire and, on the orders of the battalion commander, took up a firing position on the left flank of the rifle company to conduct flanking fire. Machine-gun and machine-gun fire forced the Nazis to lie down in the trenches and shut up, but this silence did not last long. A heavy fire fell upon the machine-gun crew of Trukhanov. The bunker prevented the advance, and the offensive ceased. Then Trukhanov, with a calculation, advanced 100 meters from the enemy and opened fire on the embrasure of the bunker. The enemy machine gun was silent, and the company went on the attack. Trukhanov approached the enemy firing point up to 40 meters, when the enemy machine gun again came to life. At that moment, his entire crew failed, the cartridges carrier was killed, and Trukhanov himself was wounded. Overcoming pain, he continued to fire along the embrasure, getting closer and closer to her. When he was in a dead zone with a machine gun, a heroic decision came. With the shield of his machine gun and his left shoulder, he closed the enemy embrasure, and the enemy machine gun choked. Inspired by the heroic feat, the company almost instantly found itself in enemy trenches and captured an important line of defense. The sergeant Trukhanov, three times wounded, who lost consciousness from a crushed shoulder, was picked up from the enemy embrasure and evacuated to the medical battalion and to the army hospital. In addition to the perfect heroic feat in this battle, he destroyed 28 Nazis and was represented by the command to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union .

The commander of the 1260th Infantry Regiment, Lt. Col. Plotnikov, wrote in the award sheet:

“The senior sergeant himself, already twice wounded, was bleeding, but did not abandon his machine gun, continued to fire at the enemy, preventing him from firing at our advancing infantry. Having stopped shooting for replenishment of ammunition, Comrade Trukhanov again entered into combat with the easel machine gun of the enemy, which again came to life ... Comrade Trukhanov, bleeding, losing consciousness, right next to the body of the machine gun, laid his left shoulder on the bunker embrasure and blocked it with the body of the bunker. The German machine gun was choked, and our infantry quickly burst into the trenches of the enemy, inflicting a heavy blow to him. Thereby, a command order was executed. Comrade Trukhanov, three times wounded, who lost consciousness from a fragmented shoulder, was lying at the embrasure of the bunker ... "

- Polynkin A. Lay on the bunker embrasure .

At the hospital there was a question about the demobilization of Trukhanov, but he again managed to return to the front. Trukhanov became the foreman of a machine gun company, was once again wounded and awarded the second order of the Red Star . This happened on the territory of Poland , on August 23, 1944 , when the Hitlerites counterattack was repelled. Petty Officer Trukhanov then showed all the fighters that he not only skillfully owns a machine gun, but also an ordinary rifle.

In October 1944, the 380th Rifle Division as part of the 49th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front conquered the bridgehead on the Narev River and at that time liberated the Belarusian, now Polish city of Lomza . On this bridgehead, the commander of the machine gun compartment, Senior Sergeant Trukhanov, as part of his regiment, held the defense until January 1945 .

On January 14, 1945, the Mlava-Elbing operation of the troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front began . During it, the detachment of Senior Sergeant Trukhanov participated in the offensive from the Ostrolenkovsky bridgehead on the Narev River, the liberation of the city of Myshinets on the outskirts of the border with East Prussia, and in the battles on the southern border of the Heilsberg fortified area. And then parts of the 49th army regrouped to the area north of the city of Bromberg ( Bydgoszcz ), and from February 10, 1945, Trukhanov’s division launched an offensive during the East Pomeranian operation on the Danzig direction.

March 11, 1945 for the foreman Trukhanov, in the same Poland , the last battle took place - on the highway between the cities of Karthaus ( Kartuzy ) and Tsoppot ( Sopot ). In this battle, the Orlovites received a fifth wound during the war and were evacuated to the hospital. It was there that he received the news of conferring on him the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for a feat committed on the banks of the Dnieper .

On March 24, 1945, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to them, Senior Sergeant Trukhanov Pyotr Stepanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal

On May 22, 1945, Senior Sergeant Trukhanov was demobilized and returned to Oryol . In connection with disability, he switched to work in the ODS system of NOD-4.

Member of the CPSU since 1953 .

Then, before retiring, he worked as a car dealer in the carriage depot of Orel station. Subsequently - in the militarized security of the Tekmash plant. where he worked until his retirement, received the title of "Honorary Railway Worker" and was awarded the sign "Drummer of Communist Labor . " After retiring, he worked as a watchman in the militarized guard of the Tekmash plant.

He died on August 14, 1992 . He was buried in Orel at the Afanasyevsky cemetery.
