Jonas Osvaldas Balakauskas (b. October 19, 1937 [1] ) - Soviet and Lithuanian composer working in the direction of classical music, music teacher and diplomat; Laureate of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art (1996).

Content
Biography
He graduated from Vilnius Pedagogical University in 1961 [2] . After serving in the army since 1964, he studied composition under the direction of Lyatoshinsky and Skorik at the Kiev Conservatory until 1969. In 1968-1972 he was the editor of the publishing house "Musical Ukraine" in Kiev [3] .
In 1992-1994 he was in the diplomatic service, was the Ambassador of Lithuania to France, Spain and Portugal [4] . In 1996, he was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize, awarded for his achievements in art. He currently heads the composition department of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater. His creative heritage includes concerts, symphonies, chamber and instrumental music.
