Biography

Born May 10, 1935 in the village of Korovye, Korovinsky Village Council, Mishkinsky District, Chelyabinsk Region (now Kurgan Region ).

At the age of seven, he was left without parents. From this age until the end of the seventh grade he was brought up in the orphanage to them. N.K. Krupskaya in the village of Korovye (1941-1951) [1] .

In 1955, he graduated from the Sverdlovsk Art and Industrial School No. 42 , specializing in "sculptor of architectural details." [2] . By distribution, he was sent to work in the Sverdlovsk branch of the Art Fund of the USSR. The first work is the decoration of the Palace of the Verkh-Isetsky Plant . In parallel to work, he studied at evening school, where he received secondary education.

In 1965 he graduated with honors from the Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial College named after V. I. Mukhina , specialty "monumental and decorative sculpture" [2] . For 5 years he worked in Sverdlovsk [3] .

Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1970 .

From 1970 to 1984 he worked in Taganrog : from February to November 1972, he was the chief artist in the Taganrog Architecture Department; since 1972 - artist of the Taganrog design workshop of the Rostov creative and industrial complex of workshops of the HF RSFSR.

In Taganrog, in collaboration with his wife, sculptor Valentina Gracheva , he created a number of monumental works: the memorial “Oath of Youth” , a stele in Petrushina Balka, “Eternal Flame” in the Park of Culture and Rest named after Gorky [3] . According to the sketches of the Grachevs in the 1970s, magnificent cast lattices of the fence of the city ​​park were made, decorating the central street of the city [3] .

In 1984 , after the death of his wife, he moved to Novosibirsk [3] , where until 1986 he worked as a design engineer in the design department of the Institute of Hydrodynamics named after M.A. Lavrentiev SB AS USSR .

In 1991, for the ice sculpture created by Ilya Muromets at the International Ice Sculpture Competition in Harbin, Grachev was awarded the Gold Medal and First Prize.

Since 1995 he has been teaching sculpture at the Department of Monumental and Decorative Art of the Novosibirsk State Academy of Architecture and Art . Associate Professor of the Department of Monumental and Decorative Art of the National Academy of Artists.

Rewards

  • Gold Medal and First Prize at the International Ice Sculpture Competition (1991, Harbin, China).
  • In 2002, he won the prize of the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region in the field of culture and art.
