The thick-billed macaw [1] , or the red-faced thick-billed macaw [2] ( lat. Rhynchopsitta pachyrhyncha ) is a bird of the parrot family. The only species of the genus.

Content
AppearanceBody length 40 cm. The color of the plumage is green. The lower hiding feathers of the wing are yellow, on the fold of the wing they are red, the hips of the same color. There are brown stripes near the eyes on the forehead. Wax and cheeks are not feathered. The beak is large black. The wings are long, but do not reach the end of the tail. The tail is stepped, wedge-shaped.
DistributionIt lives in the central and northwestern regions of Mexico .
LifestyleFor a long time there was no information about the biology of this parrot, until in 1978–79 D. Lening and J. Shiflet conducted special studies.
They inhabit mountain pine forests; it rises to the mountains to a height of 3500 m above sea level. In winter, they descend to a height of about 1,500 m above sea level. It feeds on pine seeds.
ReproductionBreeds from mid-June to late July, in hollows of old pines at an altitude of 2300-3000 m above sea level. There are 2-4 eggs in the clutch . The female incubates , the young leave the nest after 7–9 weeks.
ContentsUnpretentious parrots. Keeping them at home is easy; they can live in captivity for a long time.

Some experts consider them to be separate species. Both subspecies are listed in the Red Book.
