History
In 1741, with the blessing of Bishop Innocent (Nerunovich) , a wooden Assumption Church was erected in the southeastern corner of the Ascension Monastery. In May 1780, the stone Assumption Church was laid. October 19, 1783 the church was consecrated by the rector of the monastery, Archimandrite Sinesiy (Ivanov) . In 1802, at the expense of the Irkutsk merchant N. S. Chupalov, a stone fence was erected around the monastery, adjoining the church in such a way that the southern and eastern walls of the temple were a continuation of the fence. The Assumption Church is a rare example of a temple built into the monastery fence not over the gate, but as a continuation of the fortress walls [1] .
