Kargalinka

The length of Kargalinka is 57 km, the catchment area is 98 km². It has 15 small tributaries of spring food with a total length of 27 km. The width of the channel is 5-10 m, the depth is 0.3-0.5 m, in the flood period up to 1 m. The average long-term water consumption is 0.65 m ³ / s (at the Chapaev collective farm).

The Kargalinki basin is located in the mid-mountain and low-mountain zones of the western part of the Trans-Ili Alatau ^[1] . The slopes of the valley in the middle reaches have a steepness of 40-60 degrees. In the Kargalinki basin, there are 2 ponds with a total water mirror area of ​​0.03 km². River water is used for irrigation and water supply. Bridges were built at the intersection of the river with the Almaty-Kaskelen, Almaty-Shemolgan and Almaty-Moscow railways. Today, the sanitary condition of the river is assessed as unsatisfactory ^[2] .

On the night of July 23, 2015 at 02:15 there was a breakthrough of the moraine lake Bezymyannoye. An emission of 40 thousand cubic meters occurred. m. of water. The mudflow went along the Kargalinka river, partially was detained on the dam. For unknown reasons, water was discharged through the sandor locks installed in the dam ^[3] ; as a result, the dam was only half full. According to the residents who called the Ministry of Emergency Situations at 2 a.m., they were told - "we flush the water, do not worry " ^[4] . The complete closure of locking structures in the form of sandors could possibly prevent the flooding of the city. As a result of the mudflow, 456 houses were damaged, of which 9 were charged with destruction, 44 streets and 32 units of vehicles were flooded ^[5] .
