Crater Description

Surroundings of the Briggs Crater. Shot of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter probe.

The immediate neighbors of the crater are Russell Crater in the west; Lichtenberg crater in the north-north-east; Golgi and Zinner craters in the east; Seleucus crater in the south-southeast; Craters Eddington and Struve in the south [2] .

Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 36.8 km [3] , depth 1.2 km [4] .

The crater has an irregular shape with protrusions in the northern and southern parts. The shaft height above the surrounding area is 1000 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 1000 km³ [1] . The bottom of the crater bowl is uneven, there are concentric grooves. In the direction north-south in the bowl is a long ridge. There is a central peak with an elevation of 200 m [5] .
