Noel Kempff Mercado National Park is located in the province of José Miguel de Velasco of the Santa Cruz department in eastern Bolivia on the border with Brazil . The park covers 15,838 km2, making it one of the largest parks in the entire Amazon basin . In 2000, the park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List [1] .

Description
- The location . The park is located 600 km northeast of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in the province of José Miguel de Velasco and is bordered by the Brazilian states of Rondonia and Mato Grosso .
- Area : 15,234 km²
- Range of heights : from 200 to 750 meters.
- Climate : warm humid tropical with an average annual rainfall of 1500 mm [2] .
- Geology : the Kaparu plateau is formed by rocks of sandstone and quartzite from the Precambrian times. It is characterized by hilly plains, steep cliffs, valleys and slopes. It is believed that the plateau was formed due to successive cycles of erosion about 20 million years ago.
