Avith, apparently, from the Ligurian city of Pollencia . His father was the consul-suffix of the year 186 Quint Gedi Ruf Lolian Gentian, his grandfather was the consul of 144, Lucius Gedi Ruf Lollian Avit , and his brother was the consul of 211, Gedi Lolian Terentius Gentian .
He began his career as a military tribune of the XIII Double Legion , stationed in the province of Dacia. Perhaps in 195, he was a candidate for questors , and then in the year 200 candidates were praetors .
Lollian's next position was legacy in Asia in the year 201/202. This was followed by his appointment as judge of Asturias and Gallecia .
After this, Plavius Avit was a legate of the VII Dual Legion from 202 to probably 205. In 209, he served as ordinary consul along with Lucius Aurelius Commodus Pompeian . Around 224, Avit was a proconsul of the province of Asia .
