History
The first Chamorro settlements appeared at this place around 500 AD . [5] In 1668, the Spaniards founded a settlement and built the first Catholic church on the island. In 1898, after the Spanish-American War, the Philippines and Guam were ceded to the American side.
In 1940, the population of the city increased to about 10 thousand inhabitants, which then made up about half the number of the entire island.
On December 8, 1941, Guam was occupied by the Japanese invaders. With the release of Guam in 1944, Agana was heavily damaged by the US military bombardment. Many residents left the city and moved to other parts of the island.
