Biography

Ivan Shodoev was born on September 25, 1914 in the family of a poor peasant in the village of Ust-Kan (now part of the Ust-Kansky district of the Altai Republic ). He began to work from the age of 14. He graduated from elementary school, then studied at the regional concurrent school, and in 1935 he graduated from the All-Union School of Children's Movement in Odessa . After that he returned to Altai, where he worked at various posts in the organs of the Komsomol and the party . He participated in the Great Patriotic War near Stalingrad, Kursk. He was wounded several times, until the end of his life 17 fragments remained in his body. Demobilized in July 1946 . Member of the CPSU , was engaged in party work.

For a long time he worked in the newspaper Altaydyk Cholmon , first as deputy editor-in-chief, then as editor-in-chief. Since 1957, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR, and since 1969 - a member of the Union of Writers of the RSFSR. In 1958, his first book for children was published, and a total of 12 books were published. Particular recognition and fame among readers received his historical novels "At Dawn" and "Terrible Years." In 1974-1976 he was the executive secretary of the Writers' Union of the Gorno-Altai Autonomous Okrug .

The front-line writer was awarded four orders and seventeen medals for military and labor merits.

In 1987, I. Shodoev was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Gorno-Altaysk ” for his long and fruitful writing and journalistic work, for his active participation in the social and political life of the city and the Altai Republic.

Creativity

The first works of Shodoev were published in 1933, when he worked in a regional newspaper. He wrote many essays about Altai, then tried himself in versification, and then turned to prose. In 1958, his book “Bunny” was published as a separate publication. In the next decade, his other books were also published - collections of plays, tales and short stories for children “Altyn - Sumy”, “Karas”, “Do You Know?”, “First Steps”. In the future, the history of the Altai people began to occupy an important place in the work of Shodoev. On this subject he wrote the novel “Irbizek”, the novels “Difficult Years” and “At Dawn”. The author continued this theme in the 1980-1990s: during this period his novels “Conquering Death”, “Treasure of Kemlei”, “Kachuk”, and “The Past Dear” were published.
