Mammeev, Ibrahim Shakmanovich

Ibrahim Shakmanovich Mammeev (February 5, 1919 - October 17, 2004) - Balkarian playwright and poet. Honored Artist of the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1958). Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR (1939).

Biography

Ibrahim Mammeev was born in 1919 in the village of Gundelen (now in the Elbrus region of Kabardino-Balkaria ). Received higher education at GITIS . Since 1939 he worked in the Balkar State Theater . He participated in the Great Patriotic War [1] , took part in the storming of Berlin . After completing military service in 1946, he lived in Kyrgyzstan , where his relatives were evicted during the deportation of the Balkar people .

In 1956, after rehabilitation, he returned to his homeland. At first he worked in the editorial office of the newspaper Kommunizmge Zhol (The Way to Communism), after the restoration of the Balkarian theater he switched to work in the theater, where he worked until the end of his days.

Creativity

Even in his youth, Mammeev wrote poetry and ballads. In 1958, a separate edition came out of collections of his poems "Scythe". However, the greatest fame for Mammeev brought drama. He was one of the creators of the national repertoire of the Balkar theater. On the plots from the history and modernity of the Balkarian people he created the plays “After the Wedding”, “The Shamaya Fortress”, “The Feudal Lord”, and “Sighted Love”. Mammeev also translated a number of works of world classics into the Balkar language and staged a number of works of Balkar literature .
