Lexington was founded around 1642 as an agricultural part of the city of Cambridge . In 1691, this unit was incorporated as a parish , having received the name Cambridge Farms . Own church appeared in Cambridge Farms, and in 1713 it was given the status of a city [1] , and soon after that the new city gained its current name. There are two versions about the origin of the name of the city: it was named after Baron Lexinton; or in honor of the English village of Laxton .

On April 19, 1775, the first shots were fired in Lexington, which marked the beginning of the War of Independence . In this regard, Patriots Day is annually celebrated in the city on the third Monday of April

Since its inception, Lexington has served as a supplier of agricultural products for Boston , and in 1846 it was connected to the capital by the Lexington and West Cambridge Railroad , now this branch has not been operating for a long time, the 16-kilometer Minuteman Bikeway bicycle route has been laid along its route.
