Operclipygus planifrons (lat.) Is a species of beetles from the family Histeridae ( Histerinae , Exosternini ). South America : Colombia , Ecuador . Length 2.40-2.53 mm, width 2.12-2.22 mm. The color is reddish brown. The body is round, the forehead is flat. From similar species ( Operclipygus kerga , Operclipygus punctistrius ) it is distinguished by the absence of a pygidial marginal groove. The species was first described in 2013 by entomologists Michael S. Caterino and Alexei Tishchechkin ( Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History , Santa Barbara , USA ) and, during their revision of the genus Operclipygus, was included in its composition and assigned to the species group O .kerga group . [1] .
