Biography

Born in Essen in 1908. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Music under Ernst Grenzebach. Later he studied privately with Lula Muz-Gmeiner, whose daughter he later married. In 1931, he appeared in a Berlin production of La belle Hélène . His opera debut took place in 1932 in Heidelberg in Fidelio , where Peter Anders performed the part of Jacquinot [3] .

In 1938 he participated in the world premiere of the opera Peace Day by R. Strauss.

He sang in Darmstadt (1933-1935), Cologne (1935-1936), Hanover (1937-1938), and then at the Munich State Opera (1938-1940). Then he returned to Berlin and from 1940 to 1948 was a soloist of the German State Opera in Berlin [3] . His repertoire at that time included mainly lyrical roles, but since 1949, Anders with the same success began to play dramatic. Sometimes he took part in operettas.

Among his parties are: Othello, Radames, Belmont in “Abduction from the Seraglio” by Mozart, Lionel in “Martha” by Flotov, Max's party in “Free Arrow”, Florestan in “Fidelio”, Walter in “Nuremberg Mastersingers” by Wagner [3] .

During the Second World War, Anders was a favorite of Adolf Hitler and therefore was released from military service, instead participating in various propaganda events; this greatly stained his reputation in the post-war world. He died in a car accident at the age of 46, being at the peak of his career.
