Biography

Vasily Egorov was born on May 5, 1923 in the village of Podsevo, Sychevsky district [1] . At the age of eight, he was left without a father, moved with his mother to Moscow , where he graduated from seven classes of the school, worked at the Likhachev Automobile Plant . In 1941, Yegorov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation School, then the Higher Officer Pilot School. Since April 1943 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the Kalinin , 1st Baltic , 3rd Belorussian fronts. He flew on the La-5 and La-7 fighters. He was engaged in reconnaissance of enemy positions, communications, ports, airfields. He participated in the liberation of the Smolensk region, the Belarusian SSR [2] .

By April 1945, Senior Lieutenant Vasily Egorov commanded the 21st Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 259th Fighter Air Division of the 3rd Air Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front. By that time, he had made 315 sorties, took part in 16 air battles, shooting down 10 enemy planes personally and 1 in the group, as well as 1 balloon [3] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, for “exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and shown courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders,” senior lieutenant Vasily Yegorov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal [2 ] .

After the war, Yegorov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. He participated in the Korean War , being the squadron commander of the 878th fighter aviation regiment (216th fighter air defense division, 64th fighter air corps). In Korea, flew on the MiG-15, fought from February to June 1953. In this war, Major Egorov personally shot down 3 US fighters [4] .

At the end of the war in Korea, Lieutenant Colonel Egorov, being the commander of the 405th Fighter Aviation Regiment, served in the Belarusian Military District since May 1955, where the regiment relocated from China, where it became part of the 330th Fighter Aviation Division of the 26th Air Army [ 5] .

Tragically died in a plane crash on September 28, 1964 . He was buried at the All-Holy Cemetery of Krasnodar [2] .

He was also awarded five orders of the Red Banner , the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, and a number of medals [2] .
