Biography
Alexander Evstigneev was born on December 5, 1925 in Smolensk . Since 1936, he and his family lived in the city of Usolye-Sibirsky, Irkutsk Region . After graduating from a school for factory apprenticeship at the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant, he worked as a mechanic at a defense plant in the city of Petrovsk-Zabaykalsky in the Chita Region . In January 1943, Evstigneev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since May of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By July 1944, Junior Sergeant Alexander Evstigneev was in command of the 1230th Infantry Regiment of the 370th Infantry Division of the 69th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
July 18, 1944 during the battle for the tract Volchishche Evstigneev the first in his unit burst into the enemy trench and destroyed a German officer and several soldiers. Yevstigneev’s branch was one of the first to reach the USSR state border west of Luboml and establish a border post. On July 20, in the area of the village of Khusynne east of Helm Eustignee, the Western Bug was the first to cross the Four Bugs with automatic fire and covered the crossing of the remaining fighters. When the German bunker blocked their path, Evstigneev went around him from the rear and burst inside, killing the officer and capturing two soldiers. During the crossing of the Vistula, Evstigneev was seriously wounded and was sent to the hospital [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and shown courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders," Junior Sergeant Alexander Evstigneev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 7938 [1] .
After discharge from the hospital, Evstigneev was demobilized. He lived in Irkutsk , worked as a driver, a locksmith. He died on May 24, 1962, was buried in the Radishchevsky cemetery of Irkutsk. On the grave is a monument [1] .
He was also awarded a number of medals [1] .
