Biography
Nikolay Evstafiev was born on April 1, 1925 in the resettlement village of Bygansky [1] . He received an incomplete secondary education, after which he worked as a mechanic at a vocational school. In 1941, Evstafiev was sent to a military radio school; then he was called up for service in the Red Army - since 1942 - on the fronts of World War II; the military way began near the walls of Stalingrad, with battles went Romania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Hungary. By December 1944, Junior Sergeant Nikolai Yevstafyev was the line supervisor of the 1064th separate cable-pole company of the 46th Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front . Distinguished himself during the liberation of Hungary [2] .
On the night of December 6-7, 1944, Evstafiev laid a cable along the bottom of the Danube south of Budapest . For several hours, he maintained uninterrupted communication between units on different banks of the river, eliminating gaps. A few days later Yevstafyev again crossed the Danube in the Budapest area and established contact with the units leading the offensive [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Junior Sergeant Nikolai Yevstafyev was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 4782 [2] .
After the war, Evstafiev continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1950 he graduated from the Leningrad Military Engineering Order of Lenin, the Red Banner College. A.A. Zhdanova . In 1957, with the rank of senior lieutenant, he was transferred to the reserve.
He lived in Moscow , worked in the technical service of the Moscow Metro . He died on June 20, 1965, was buried at the Golovinsky cemetery in Moscow [2] .
He was also awarded a number of medals [2] .
