Biography
Gavril Evseev was born on July 15, 1914 in the village of Potapovo-Tumbarla (now the Bavlinsky district of Tatarstan ). Chuvash [1] . Received an incomplete secondary education. Since 1932 he worked as an instructor in the Bavlinsky district. In 1936, Evseev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Since November 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By April 1945, Major Gavril Evseev commanded the division of the 547th mortar regiment of the 61st Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the forcing of the Oder [2] .
On April 17, 1945, Evseev successfully organized the crossing of his division through the Oder in the region of the village of Neuglitzen 13 kilometers north of Vritsen and established contact with the rifle regiment. Firing at the enemy, the division supported the actions of the infantry to expand the bridgehead [2] . For this battle he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
After the war, Evseev was sacked. He returned to his native village. He died on May 15, 1973 [2] .
Rewards
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 31, 1945, Major Gavril Evseev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [2] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [2] .
Memory
- The memorial plaque in memory of Yevseyev was erected by the Russian Military Historical Society on the building of the Potapovo-Tumbarlinsky secondary school in the Bavlinsky district, where he studied.
- Installed a bust in Bavlach .
