Biography
Eric Secretly was born in Jersey City (USA) in the family of medical technologists Felimon and Evelyn Secretly. In 1992, he won the US Youth Open Doubles Championship [1] , but the family, having paid for his older sister's studies at Columbia University , could not afford to support him financially in the early years of his professional career. Therefore, Eric for four years defended the colors of the University of California at Los Angeles in the student championships of the United States. From 1995 to 1997, he joined the symbolic student team of North America. The last year he spent in the university team only at the insistence of the coach, who then promised to find Erica sponsors, but this did not happen [2] .
In 1997, Secretly turned into professionals. In October, in Sedona (Arizona), he made his way to the first ATP Challenger tournament final in his career, and in the middle of next year, paired with Argentinean Diego del Rio, won his first title at this level. In November 1998, Secretly, who held 130th place in the doubles rankings, reached Bogotá before his first final of the APR tournament. In the semifinals, he and his partner Gabor Koves from Hungary defeated the strong Czech pair Jiri Novak - David Rikl , but failed to win the title. Secretly, he achieved this success only a year later in Singapore, where after two more defeats in the finals, he finally managed to beat the Olympic champions Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodford together with Belarus Maxim Mirny .
In the future, Secretly played three more times with different partners in the finals of ATP International class tournaments , in 2000 having risen in the doubles ranking to 52nd place, but he did not win victories at this level anymore. He won all the rest of his titles, both in doubles and singles, at lower-class tournaments - “challengers” and “futures” . In addition to professional tournaments, he won the bronze medal of the 2006 Asian Games [3], won in tandem with another Filipino of American descent, Cecil Mamit (a year earlier, he also won the gold medal in the doubles category in the Southeast Asian Games) [4] , and a year later in Manila - silver [5] ). From 2006 to 2008, he also played for the Philippines national team in the Davis Cup , having spent three seasons in the lower divisions of the Asian group. As part of his appearances for the national team in 2008, he spent his last matches in professional tournaments, finishing individual performances a year before. In 2008, it was reported that he was offered coaching in one of the clubs in Los Angeles [5] .
