Biography
The Holy Martyr Theoktist was born on January 17, 1874 in the village of Tarasovichi, Oster County, Chernihiv Province [1] .
After studying at the Chernihiv Theological Seminary, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Anthony (Sokolov) of Chernigov and Nezhinsky, served in the parishes of the Chernigov Diocese , was the head and law teacher of Zemstvo and literacy schools, and taught at the Chernigov Theological Seminary.
The last parish of Father Feoktist was the Holy Trinity Church of the village of Losinovka, in which he served until its closure in 1936. In the same year, the priest was arrested and sent to the Karlag labor camp in Kazakhstan [2] , and the next year the priest was sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out on October 3, 1937 at 23 hours 30 minutes. The burial place of the priest is unknown.
Canonization
By the definition of the Anniversary Consecrated Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church dated August 20, 2000, Archpriest Feoktist Eliseevich Smelnitsky was numbered among the saints of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
