Biography
Jeru Billimoria was born in Mumbai ( India ) in the family of an accountant and social worker. Being raised in a family with strong social convictions and having lost her father early, she could not but devote her life to social problems [7] . Billimoria earned a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Mumbai (formerly Bombay University) in 1986, a Master of Arts degree in social work from Indiana in: Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1988, and a Master of Science degree in Management from Nonprofits at New School for Social Research University in New York in 1992. From 1991 to 1999, she was a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
Social Entrepreneurship
In 1996, based on her work with children living in the streets of India, Jeru Billimoria created the Childline India Foundation, a 24-hour children's hotline. To increase the success achieved in India, Billimoria founded Child Helpline International, an international provider of children's hotline services. To date, this line has received more than 140 million calls in 133 countries. [6] By grouping information on the types of difficulties experienced by children, CHI is able to determine and set the policy vector of governmental and non-governmental organizations [6] . After collecting information through the hotlines, it became clear that many distress signals are related to poverty. To solve these problems, Billimoria created Aflatoun, a non-governmental organization whose goal is to tell children about their economic rights and responsibilities, as well as develop basic financial skills and habits. Today, her organization has become available to 1.3 million children in 94 countries [8] . In July 2011, Billimoria founded Child and Youth Finance International, an international network of states, financial organizations and educational institutions, whose goal is to increase the financial opportunities and participation of children and youth in financial activities, which is achieved through cooperation and resource allocation [9] .
