Biography
Vasily Yevdoshenko was born on March 17, 1924 in the village of Bobrava (now - Rakityansky district, Belgorod region ). He received an incomplete secondary education, after which he worked on a collective farm . In October 1941, he was in occupation, after his release in March 1943, Yevdoshenko was drafted into the army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Voronezh and the 1st Ukrainian fronts. He was wounded twice. By October 1943, the Red Army soldier Vasily Evdoshenko was a field engineer of the 392nd separate sapper battalion of the 232th rifle division of the 38th army of the Voronezh Front. Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper [1] .
On October 3, 1943, Yevdoshenko, despite the massive fire of enemy machine guns , artillery and mortar shells , successfully crossed the Dnieper near Vyshgorod . Despite being wounded, he managed to find and deliver two fishing boats to the east coast in two flights. On the night of 3 to 4 October, he participated in the crossing of Soviet fighters and commanders until he was seriously wounded and sent to hospital [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated January 10, 1944 "for courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper" Red Army soldier Vasily Yevdoshenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Yevdoshenko continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1947, he graduated from the Leningrad Military Engineering School, in 1952 - advanced training courses for officers. Since 1965, he lived and served in Serpukhov . In 1970, in the rank of Major Yevdoshenko was dismissed. Died July 16, 2003, buried in the Ivanovo cemetery of Serpukhov [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree and the Red Star , along with a number of medals [1] .
