Damaskinage ( fr. Damasquinage ), or the not accustomed name of all'agemin [1] ( ital. All'agemina ) - in jewelry, the art of making notches on metal with another metal; the average between sculpture and engraving [1] ; notch of gold, silver patterns on steel products [2]
This decorative and artistic technique was brought to Italy in the 15th century from Persia [1] , its capital Damascus ; hence its French name.
Agencourt presented a sample of Italian all'agemin (“Painting”, sheet. 168 [3] ) in the image of the head of the “ eola ” with disheveled hair, on a golden plate; hair was produced by silver threads; in other parts of the picture is gold. The described specimen was the decoration of the cup and was in the collection of the abbot Mauro Boni, who described in detail his rarity in Memorie per servire alla storia letteraria per l'anno 1799, semester II, part I. [1]
The dissertation of Abbot Francesconi, Illustrazione di un'Urnetta lavorata All 'Agemina ( Venice , 1800), was written on this subject ( Venice , 1800) [1] .
