Career

Club

Henning Fritz began his career in the German Bundesliga in the "Magdeburg" back in 1988, during the existence of the GDR . In the 2001/2002 season, he played for Kiel and won the German Championship four times (2002, 2005, 2006, 2007), the German Cup twice (2002, 2004) and the German Super Cup once (2005). In July 2007, Fritz joined the Rhine-Neckar Leuven club which left at the end of the 2011/2012 season. At the same time, he announced the end of his playing career and got a job as a goalkeeping coach for the team of the 2nd leuterhausen, as well as an employee of the division of the German Handball Union for working with junior clubs [1] [2] . In October 2012, in Wiesloch, he opened his own sports center, PT Lounge.

In the national team

For the national team, Fritz played 235 meetings. In 2002, as part of the German national team, he won silver medals at the European Championships in Sweden , after a year he achieved a similar achievement at the World Championships in Portugal. In 2004, he resigned to the European Championships in Slovenia , but even earlier in the 2004 Olympics his team won silver medals. Fritz became the best goalkeeper of the tournament and the actual leader of the team, leading it to the final, but the Germans, as in Portugal, were defeated by the Croats in the final.

In 2005, due to an elbow injury, Henning missed the World Cup, but two years later he played in the home championship, despite the long absence of match practice. Until the last moment, no one was sure that Henning would be included in the team, but he took the place of the main goalkeeper and, as it turned out, fully justified the hopes of the coaches: several times he became the best player of the matches involving the German national team.

In the final, a real drama broke out: for all the time that Henning spent on the floor, he did not make any serious mistakes, and his game allowed the Germans to come forward and get the score 21:14. However, Henning soon suffered a serious injury and was replaced by a double, Johannes Bitter. Bitter managed to lose an advantage in a matter of minutes, and the Poles took the lead with a score of 21:22. But here, too, Germany was saved by the game of the attackers, who snatched the victory with a score of 29:24. Despite being injured in the game, Fritz in the tournament became both the best goalkeeper and a member of the symbolic team of all the stars of the tournament, having achieved the biggest victory in his handball career.
