Biography

Gnadenpfennig Bohuslav XIV

The last male representative of the Grifich dynasty. Bohuslav XIV was the third son of the Duke Bohuslav XIII (1544-1606) and his first wife, Clara Braunschweig-Luneburg (1550-1598).

In 1606, after the death of his father, Boguslav XIV and his younger brother George II inherited the duchy of Pomerania-Rügenwalde. In 1617, George II died and Boguslav XIV became the sole ruler. In 1620, he also inherited the duchy of Stettin (after the death of his older brother Franz ). In 1625, after the death of Philip Julius , the last representative of the Volgast line of the Pomeranian ducal house, he inherited Western Pomerania.

February 19, 1625 Boguslav XIV married Elizabeth Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg , daughter of the Duke Johann II and his first wife Elizabeth Braunschweig-Grubenhagen .

Despite all the efforts of Bohuslav XIV, starting in 1627, Pomerania was drawn into the Thirty Years War . The duchy was first devastated by the imperial, then by the Swedish troops, who occupied Pomerania in 1629.

In the year 1637. Bohuslav XIV died without leaving any heirs. His possessions were shared by the elector of Brandenburg, George Wilhelm , who had the rights to Pomerania under an agreement between the two dynasties of 1464, and the husband of George's sister, Swedish king Gustav Adolf . This section later confirmed the Peace of Westphalia . Formally, the title of Boguslav XIV passed to the branch related to Grifichi Drago-Saxons - to the Polish Panas Gubitsky. The last known pan was Nikolai Gubitsky (Nicolaus Hubicki), who lived in Drohobych . (Article "Gentry ridges of the Gubitsky" and the scientific work "Galitsky gentry", the book "History of the Drag-Sasіv family").
