The Stars (Are Out Tonight)

“The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” ( English - “Stars (Light Up Today)”) is a song performed by the English singer David Bowie and released as the second single from his studio album, The Next Day . It was written by Bowie and produced by Tony Visconti. [1] The official video, directed by Floria Sigismondi , was released on February 25, and the next day the song went into digital distribution [2] [3] . The video, stylized as a mystical thriller, involved the British actress Tilda Swinton [4] , who played the wife of David. The role of mystical creatures was played by the Australian fashion model Andrea Pezhich and the Dutch model Saskia de Brau [5] [6] . On physical media, the song was released in a limited edition of the single Where Are We Now? Released April 20, 2013 [7] .

The composition was well received by critics. Jason Heller, a journalist for The AV Club online magazine, emphasizes the dualism of the concept of a star; in his opinion, this song talks about stars, both about a part of pop culture, and really significant persons, like astronauts [8] .
