History
The first Burid, Tugtegin, was the atabek (educator) of Dukak . After the death of Dukak in 1104, he married his mother and began to single-handedly rule South Syria [1] . The Burids received recognition from the Caliphate in exchange for significant gifts. In turn, the caliphate did not interfere in the affairs of the emirate [2] .
Tugtegin repeatedly made campaigns against the crusaders. In 1119, he, along with the Mardinian emir Il-Gazi I, recaptured Atarib and Sardana from the crusaders. In 1128 Tugtegin died and the post of Emir of Damascus was taken by the son of Buri Tajul-mulik .
