Basic Information
The medal "For the capture of Bazardzhik" was established [2] [3] by Alexander I on June 13, 1810 in connection with the victory of the Russian army during the capture of the Turkish fortress Bazardzhik (now the Bulgarian city of Dobrich ). The decree on the establishment was announced by Minister of War M. B. Barclay de Tolly to the Director of the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty D. A. Guryev [4] [5] [6] . On October 10, 1810, Barclay de Tolly informed Guryev that the emperor approved the sample of the medal and that it was necessary to make 18,828 medals and send them to the army as they were made [7] .
Medals were minted at the St. Petersburg Mint ; during the period from December 1810 to May 1811, 18,828 medals were minted in several batches [5] [7] . The order for the manufacture of ribbons for medals was received by the Moscow merchant Migulin [7] , in his factory for the period from December 1810 to April 1811, 9414 arshins of the medal ribbon were made and sent to the Ministry of War [~ 2] , that is, half an arshin [~ 3 ] ribbon accounted for one medal [5] .
Award Order
By decree [2] [3] of Alexander I , all soldiers and non-commissioned officers of the corps of Lieutenant General Kamensky 1 , who participated in the capture of Bazardzhik during the Russo-Turkish War, were to be awarded [4] . Most of the soldiers received awards before the Patriotic War of 1812 , by this time more than 14 thousand medals had been sent to active units. Medals were issued until 1820, and, according to D.I. Peters, the total number of recipients was 15,175. Some soldiers did not receive medals, since they died during the wars and did not live to be awarded. After the death of the awarded, it was supposed to hand over the medal to the inspectorate department of the Ministry of War , and from there send it back for remelting to the St. Petersburg Mint [5] .
In addition, it is known that 11 soldiers who distinguished themselves most in the battle for Bazardzhik received the insignia of the Order of St. Anne (No. 11847-11858). Many officers were awarded various orders . For distinguished officers who did not receive any orders, a cross “For the capture of Bazardzhik” [4] [5] [7] was established .
