Stachitarfeta ( Latin Stachytarpheta ) is a genus of dicotyledonous flowering plants included in the tribe Duranteae of the Verbenaceae family .

Title
The scientific name of the genus was first used in 1804 by the Danish botanist Martin Val . It is formed from other Greek. στάχυς - “spike” and ταρφειός - “thick, frequent”.
Botanical Description
Representatives of the genus are shrubs and perennial or annual herbaceous plants with branching stems.
Leaves located most often opposite, with a solid or obscure serrated edge.
The flowers are collected in long spike inflorescences. Calyx divided into 4 or 5 membranous or leaf-shaped sepals, tubular. Corolla is divided into 5 fused petals, painted in white, blue, lilac or red tones. 4 stamens , two of them underdeveloped. Pestle with capitate stigma, long. The ovary is two-rooted.
The fruit is a dry, oblong-linear shape, expanding into two parts.
Range
Species of the genus Stachitarfeta are naturally distributed in tropical regions of South America . Many of them naturalized in Africa and Asia .
