White-chinned tinamu [1] [2] ( Latin Tinamus guttatus ) is a species of bird of the tinamu family native to the rainforests of Brazil , northern Bolivia , southeast Colombia , northeastern Ecuador , eastern Peru, and southern Venezuela [3] .

TaxonomyAll species are part of the chinamu family, and to a greater extent ostrich . All ratites came from prehistoric birds, the closest relatives of which are tinamu [4] . White-chinned chinamu is a monotypic species [2] [3] .
Name OriginThe name Tinamus guttatus consists of two words from different languages. The word Tinamus was taken from the language of the Galibi tribe, which became the name of the genus, and guttatus from Latin , which means "motley" [5] .
DescriptionWhite-chinned chinamou has a dark brown upper body with blackish stripes on the back and small, yellowish-white spots. The lower body is pale, with wider, dark-striped flanks [4] . The bird has a gray head and neck, a white throat, brown eyes, a brown beak. The length of these birds is 32 to 36 cm (13 and 14 inches) [4] .
BehaviorLike other chinamos, white-chin chinamu feeds on fruits located on the surface of the earth or low-lying shrubs, as well as invertebrates , buds , tender leaves, seeds and roots [4] . The male hatches eggs, which can appear from four different females, and then looks after the chicks until they are ready to stand on their own legs; this period usually ranges from two to three weeks [4] . The nest is located on the ground in dense grass or in an elevated root support [4] .
Distribution and habitatThey inhabit subtropical and tropical low-lying forests at an altitude of about 500 m (1600 ft) and below [6] . They feed on seeds , fruits, and invertebrates along with other chinamos .
SecurityIn its habitat, a fairly common species, the main threat of which is deforestation . In 2012, the status of white-chin tinamu is close to a vulnerable position , but the range extends to 4,000,000 km² (about 1,500,000 sq. Miles) [6] . His eggs are a valuable item among collectors.
