Biography

Jong Honwon was born on October 9, 1944 , in Hadong County, Gyeongsangnam Province . He graduated from the law school of Songjungwan University [2] . One of the teachers was Prime Minister Hyun Seung John .

He has held various positions in the prosecutor’s office in Busan , from 2008 to 2011, he was chairman of the Korean Bar Association. In 2012, he resigned from the post of prosecutor [2] . At the 2012 parliamentary elections, Jong Honwon headed the recommendation committee for candidates for leadership positions from Senuri's governing party, provided legal support for the nomination of Park Geun-hye for the presidency. Engaged in private law practice.

Premiership

On February 8, 2013, the elected President of the Republic of Korea, Park Geun-hye, nominated Jong Honwon as prime minister. This was announced at a press conference by the deputy chairman of the commission for the reception of presidential powers, Jin Yong [3] . Jeon Honwon commented on his assignment, saying that he appreciates the high trust placed in him by Park Geun-hye [4] .

On February 26, 2013, the National Assembly officially led Jeon Honvon to the oath of office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea .

On April 27, 2014, Jong Honwon resigned as prime minister, deciding to take responsibility for the crash of the Sewol ferry [5] [6] [7] :

 On behalf of the government, I apologize for the problems created, starting with the preventive measures and ending with the inability to cope with the situation at the early stages. [eight] 

A ferry with 476 passengers on board, most of which were schoolchildren and teachers, rolled over and sank in two hours off the coast of South Korea on April 16. The number of victims reached three hundred people [9] . The day after the crash, when Jong Honwon met with the parents of the missing children, he was booed and someone threw a bottle of water at him [10] .

On April 27, the official representative of the cabinet of President Park Geun-hye announced the acceptance of the resignation of Prime Minister Jong Honwon, however, only after the situation with the search and rescue operations "will be completely under control" [11] .

On May 28, a former Supreme Court judge, Anne De Hee, who was nominated for Prime Minister by President Park Geun-hye on May 22 [12] , announced that he was being withdrawn because his too-high lawyer’s salary caused discontent among the masses, and he was accused of that he used his status as a former judge for personal gain [13] . In 2013, he worked as a lawyer in a law firm for 5 months and during this period earned about $ 1.57 million [14] .

On June 24, the former editor-in-chief of the newspaper Chunan Ilbo, Mun Changyk, who was nominated by President Park Geun-hye for the post of new Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea two weeks ago, announced his refusal to head the government because of criticism of his pro-Japanese views, and said that I intend to help President Park Geun-hye [15] .

On June 26, after two unsuccessful attempts to find candidates for the post of Prime Minister of South Korea, President Park Geun-hye refused to accept the resignation of Jeon Hong Won [16] , and thus he was left in his post [17] [18] .
