Career
Youth
Chang was born in Toronto to a Chinese-born immigrant family from Jamaica . When he was 12 years old, they moved from Toronto to Pembroke Pines , Florida . This created a dilemma for Chang, when he subsequently received invitations immediately from three teams: Canada , the United States and Jamaica . But in the end, he chose the US team [1] . After graduating from Cooper City High School , Mark attended the University of South Florida , where he studied finance [2] . In the same place from 1988 to 1992 he played for the local university team, where he made 25 assists.
Professional
In 1995, Chang played for the San Diego Sokkers , who at that time played in Continental League Showball . He scored 29 goals, and at the end of the season he was recognized as the “Rookie of the Year of the League” [3] .
National Team
Despite the significant success he achieved while playing in MLS, Chang never played a significant role in the national team. He played his first match for the national team on April 4, 1992 against China . True, in the end he spent only 24 games and scored only 2 goals [4] [5] . He became the first player of Chinese origin in the history of the team. The second was Brian Ching .
