Biography

Born June 11, 1870 in the Nizhny Novgorod province in the family of a priest. He received his initial education at the Nizhny Novgorod Theological College and the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary, and then, after graduating from the Kazan Theological Academy with a degree of theology (1895), he entered the number of students of Kazan University at the Faculty of History and Philology, for a special study of historical and philosophical sciences. He was left at the university to prepare for a professorship at the Department of Philosophy. At first he studied under the guidance of Professor Smirnov, and then at Moscow University , under the guidance of Professor L. M. Lopatin and Prince S. N. Trubetskoy . There he passed the master's exam. On December 30, 1902 he was accepted into the number of privat-docents of Kazan University, in the department of philosophy. In 1908, Gulyaev was approved as a master of philosophy by the council of Kharkov University . He worked at Kazan University: as a privat-docent (since 1902), an extraordinary (since 1909), and then an ordinary professor (since 1915). Professor of Kazan University in 1919-1920, Dean of the Department of History and Philology in 1914-1915. In 1919 , a university was opened in Baku , which experienced an acute shortage of personnel. Many Kazan scientists responded to the proposals of Baku University . In October 1920, Professor Gulyaev, together with his colleagues A.O. Makovelsky and P.K. Zhuse, left for Baku. At the University of Baku, Alexander Dmitrievich lectured at the Faculty of History and Philology. At the Faculty of Education, he headed the departments of the history of pedagogy and the history of philosophy, lectured at the department of dialectical materialism. From 1923 to 1926 rector of the university.
