Lira Maksutovna Bayseitova ( Kazakh. Bayseyitova Lira Masstyzy , born 1953) is a Kazakh journalist. Former editor of the opposition newspaper Republic-2000 . [2] At the end of May 2002, her 25-year-old daughter Leyla Baiseitova disappeared. Reporters Without Borders reported that during the previous week, the editor had been the target of specific threats following an interview she had with Geneva Attorney General Bernard Bertossa (May 10, 2002) regarding accounts in Swiss banks with several senior Kazakh officials, including President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Lira Baiseitova left Kazakhstan after the death of her daughter, explaining this with fears for the life of her grandson. In Kazakhstan, she was engaged in active social and political activities, was one of the associates of Akezhan Kazhegeldin. [2]
