At the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo , he took 18th place in the 15 km race, 11th place in the 30 km race and 4th place in the relay.

At the 1970 World Championships in the High Tatras, he became the world champion in the 15 km race, won the bronze medal in the relay race, in addition, he was 6th in the 30 km race and 7th in the 50 km race. At the 1974 World Cup in Falun, he was 5th in the 30 km race.
